the first time I had heard of you guys was when you were on your us tour a few years ago, and I got the Realitat 7" there. But you have been around for 10 years (!), how come we hadn't heard of you guys in the US before then? It seems you didn't start releasing more stuff till later.
Oliver: Well, it´s because you didn´t listen careful enough, he, he! Our first recordings were released around 1993 on an US Label CONSENSUS REALITY (Split Flexi with RESIST). And before the Realitaet 7", we did a couple of other stuff. And still after 10 years and a bunch of records, we are just a small light in the scene. When we play shows, maybe 3 out of 80 know us.
What'd you think of the US on your tour here? Are you gonna come back?
Oliver: We totaly enjoyed it. It was a hard drive and we were
going crazy sometimes, but after all, it was the best thing we
ever did. And we showed all
those wimps how the real men doing it, ha, ha. No seriously, everybody
said, we
never gonna make this - but we did it finally!
And I just came home today from a few shows on the US eastcoast.
Things didn´t
go the way we wanted to be, but all in all it was okay. We will
come back one
day for another complete tour, but nothing is arranged yet. Don´t
expect us
before 2001, because we will do Japan next year.
Were the tracks on the new havoc
7" older ones? When were they from and why are they being
released now?
Oliver: The tracks on the Havoc 7" are from 1997. this
were the last recordings with Marc and Roland (who played on the
US Tour). We have now a new singer and new second guitarist. First
the 7" should have been released on Bacteria Sour. Pushead
took his fave song "Genug ist Genug" for a special press
of a comp 7", but all in all we weren´t happy with
the stuff at that time, so we somehow
screwed it. But after a while I thought, it should be released
somewhere, so I asked Felix to do it. This doesn´t mean,
that Havoc is less good than Bacteria Sour, and it doesn´t
mean, that the 7" is crap. It´s just that things didn´t
work out like we wanted them to do. So go out and buy it!
When people write to you, where are they generally from?
Oliver: We get the most post from
USA and Japan. Sometimes from "strange" countries like
Indonesia, Malaysia etc. Just from everywhere.
What do you do for a living?
Oliver: I work in parents factory in an office, Mike is doing
computer stuff,
Theo just finished his civil service, Sven just got a new Job,
and Werner is
jobless, but has a lot of work to do with Studio, playing in several
bands, etc.
You've done a lot of songs in English
and German as well, are you sticking more with one than the other
in newer songs?
Oliver: Nearly all of the new songs are written in German. It´s easier for us, and most people think it´s better to do it in your own language. Mostly we will translate them in english. But not on the new one, because I don´t have the lyrics anymore. Marc can´t remember them, and they weren´t too good anyway. So there is just one song printed on the backcover.
In what part of Germany do you live and what is it like there?
Oliver: We live in the south of Germany. Our practise room is in Stuttgart. Mike, Theo and Sven moved to Stuttgart, but everybody lives on their own. Stuttgart is the capital city of our area. Me and Werner live on the country side, but also not in the same town. We just meet once a week for practise. That´s how we can survive 10 years without killing each other.
A lot of your older releases are out of print-- do you intend to rerelease them at some point or compile them?
Oliver: I made a CD for myself, but there is no plan to re-release or compile the out of print stuff. We rather do new songs.
Do you have plans to do a full LP (other than 10") at some point?
Oliver: Not really - maybe a Split (just to get the format). I think we´re too boring to do a full length LP. I wouldn´t listen to it, and if I don´t listen to it, I can´t expect other people to do it.
Since you've been around for a
while, have you noticed any change in the scene? Good/bad?
Oliver: We are totaly out of the scene in Germany. I´m too bored of all those little soap operas going on. Since I have my family, I really do have better things to care of. I liked the scene when I first hit it back in 1986 very much, but now it´s just crap.
Do you have any scene contacts with nearby countries (like Swedes always hang with Finns)?
Oliver: Not really. I just keep in touch with a couple of people around the world. And sometimes we visit each other.
Do you have any closing comments and can you tell us your future plans?
